The Feminist Tapes 2025

In Progress

THE FEMINIST TAPES tells the story of the Women’s Liberation Movement through newly rediscovered confessions of the movement’s key leaders of the 1960s and 70s.

Driven by hours of candid and insightful audio tapes — recorded in the early 90s but not heard until now — these women reflect on their revolution’s triumphs and failures and share hard-won lessons for today’s changemakers.

The film weaves their voices with rare archival footage to create an immersive experience that feels urgently relevant as the fundamental rights of many are under attack.

The Filmmakers

Elizabeth is drawn to the ways stories from the past help us make sense of the world today. Specializing in propulsive character- and archive- driven documentaries, she is currently co-directing a feature documentary about trailblazing tennis champ & activist Billie Jean King with Liz Garbus (Disney). Elizabeth served as showrunner for Garbus’ new series GONE GIRLS (Netflix) and, also with Garbus, co-directed and produced the documentary series I’LL BE GONE IN THE DARK (HBO, 2020), the standard-bearer in victim-centered crime storytelling. Named one of DOC NYC’s 2023 “40 Under 40,” Elizabeth’s producing credits include: CHURCHILL AT WAR (Netflix, 2024) and BOBBY KENNEDY FOR PRESIDENT (Netflix, 2018), DARK HORSE NATION (History, 2016). A lifelong nonfiction storyteller, Elizabeth has a long history adapting books for the screen, like Ron Chernow’s Ulysses S. Grant biography (History Channel, 2020), and began her career as a reporter for the New York Post.
